CHRISTMAS MARKET DECEMBER 11th BARX

PEPA ends the year with yet another
success story. And it is thanks to all the
publications who have so kindly advertised
our charity throughout the year
that we now find interest and support
for us is growing rapidly.
People are travelling from all over the
Alicante and Valencia provinces to attend
our charity events and it is obvious
that this would not be happening if it
wasn't for the extensive coverage the
local press and radio is giving us.
On Sunday December 11 we held a
Xmas Market in the village of Barx, way
up in the mountains near Gandia. It was
a roaring success with several of the visitors
having travelled well over 2hrs to
get to us. We had Spanish, English, German,
Dutch ( and that was just the different
breeds of dogs !!!) we were chock
a block with people of all nationalities,
all willing to part with their hard earned
case in order to help both PEPA and
CARITAS.
The selection of goodies available was
extensive and all the stalls holders helped
to make everything look as Christmassy
as possible plus they donated fabulous
prizes for our raffle so that we could
raise yet even more money.
The weather held out; it was sunny,
although a little cold at times, but the
mulled wine and mince pies warmed us
all up.
Once again I find it so heartwarming
to see how so many people are willing to
give up their time and their services to
help PEPA, not least of these being
SRPrinters of Pedrequer and Freddie
Kool. Father Xmas even took time to
pop in to see us and there were many
other voluntary helpers and friends of
the two charities involved there helping
to make the day go without a hitch and
raise the very respectable sum of just
over 400e.
One final note to reiterate that advertising
really does pay off but not always
in the conventional way; a PEPA volunteer
took a rescue dog to the market just
to show it off really and to let everyone
know that we desperately need more
foster carers for the many beautiful dogs
that we will need to re-home in the
coming years, who through no fault of
their own will become casualties of
broken homes, unexpected moves, bereavement
or more often than not just
downright thoughtless and cruel behaviour
of the owners. Well, not only did
we get a new foster carer but that lovely
very deserving dog got a new home!
This dog is definitely in for a good
Christmas.
Now thats what I call a success

P.E.P.A. met with Maria Consuelo a council member of the La Font d'en Carrós ayuntamiento on Saturday the 5 of March.

A large crowd of children and their parents were attending to hear Antonia Montaner, a local author, discuss her book

"Blas y los misterios de la noche".

This book brings out maltreatment of pets and is a wonderful introduction for children in better treatment for animals.  P.E.P.A. was introduced to the children as an organization which promotes better treatment of animals by their programmes of re-homing of abandoned animals and helping pay for sterilization of feral cats.
