PEPA CHRISTMAS LUNCH

During December, P.E.P.A. had its first luncheon at the La Cueva restaurant in Oliva, and it was a great success.  As soon as our announcement was transmitted bookings poured in and we had to cut off further reservations.  At this Christmas luncheon our raffle raised 185 euros and, in addition, six calendars were sold, raising the total for P.E.P.A. to 215 euros.  This is the most money we have collected at any of our luncheons.  There was roast turkey as well as roasts of beef and pork to select from plus all the traditional holiday veggies.  We received many positive remarks on the food and service, so we are planning to schedule a Valentine’s lunch for Tuesday 9th February.

FUN AND GAMES AT THE P.E.P.A. FUNDAY!

Held on Saturday 26th September 2009

People coming to the P.E.P.A. fun day could be forgiven for thinking they had been spirited back to the U.K. This year the event boasted a fun corner with traditional fun fair games and competitions, plus a double decker red bus providing both music and delicious hot meals, including freshly cooked fish and chips. Even the cloudy weather gave the impression of being in the U.K. rather than Spain!

Despite the rather unpredictable weather, it was great to see that everybody enjoyed themselves. There was so much to see and do. The happy, friendly atmosphere was wonderful.

Many thanks to Wayne Massingham and Wendy of Protectapet Insurance for organising the P.E.P.A. Dog Show and for kindly producing the fun day programmes. Wayne’s expertise is very much appreciated.

Many thanks also to Abbey Merritt-Holman for providing Bessie, the Costa Blanca Party Bus (www.thecostablancapartybus.com) and for donating a percentage of the day’s takings to P.E.P.A. And of course thanks as always to Derek Merritt-Holman for allowing us to use the location of the New Horizons Microlight Club at Benicolet aerodrome and for donating a percentage of the afternoon trial flights to P.E.P.A.
A special thanks also to Jorje who kindly undertook some of the trial flights.

The whole event raised a gratifying 1577, 44 euro. Thank you!

It’s also good to note that the rastro stall run by the animal charity S.P.A.M.A. raised 120€ to help towards the excellent work that they do.

Thanks to Janet Goodwin we were able to have the 2010 P.E.P.A. calendar printed in time to sell at the fun day. They were a great success. These lovely calendars are now on sale in the PEPA charity shop, in Quick Save, Oliva and at all P.E.P.A. functions. It’s a very special calendar as it features some of the many dogs and cats that have been re-homed through PEPA. Please look out for it.

The fun day was a wonderful afternoon. A lot of fun and a lot of hard work by the kind volunteers who put so much into making the event a success. Our sincere thanks to everyone who helped and who gave donations of goods for the tombola and raffles. And of course thanks to everyone who came along to support us.

One of the winners Meeka, a beautiful Husky, is yet another rescue dog. Here is her owner Frank’s story:

Meeka

We only arrived in Spain in July this year. Shortly afterwards we were chatting to some friends in our local bar and happened to say that we were thinking of looking for a rescue dog to adopt. As fate would have it we were told of a lady who had been recently widowed and desperate to find new homes for her 6 dogs as she had to return to England. Needless to say, we made arrangements straightaway to see the dogs. As soon as we saw them we were in a bit of a dilemma as I fell in love with Meeka and my wife fell in love with one of the other dogs called Mo. What can you do??!! We just had to adopt them both!  And so, one week later after erecting a fence around our house, we were ready to pick up our new pets. We’re on a pension and thanks to P.E.P.A. we received help to have Meeka spayed.

Both dogs are now fully inoculated and chipped and we are looking forward to many years of companionship. Frank & Jackie Brown.

We would like to thank Bob Bell and clients of the Talk of the Town bar in the Domeño urbanisation, near Lliria for their generous donation of 100 euros collected at their Wednesday night quizzes. And a big thank you also to Karen and Richard, PEPA foster carers, for nominating PEPA for this donation.
